The Glenreagh to Dorrigo Branch Line has a magic that captured the minds and hearts of the people who work on it. Anyone who has swung a pick or hammered the pigs foot knows the spell this line weaves. Once you have worked on this line you are linked to all other workers no matter your background or profession.

In 1910 the NSW Parliament passed legislation authorising construction of the Glenreagh to Dorrigo Railway Line. The line was to climb 736 metres (2,415 feet) in 69 kilometres (43 miles) via steep grades, sharp curves, fifteen bridges and two tunnels. Work started on the line in 1914 and when completed and opened in 1924, the railway was mainly used to remove timber, which abounds in this rugged region. In 1972, due to flood damage, Government services were suspended.
